Kearney Veteran Spotlight with William Wright

“Being a veteran is special to me because I feel I have given back to the country that has so blessed me and my family.”

What branch of the military did you serve in? How long did you serve?

I served in the Marine Corps for 27 years on active duty and retired as a lieutenant colonel in 2001.  I then served for 13 more years as a Marine Corps civilian employee.

Why did you join Kearney following your military career?

I joined Kearney following my civilian retirement to use my accounting degree and obtain my CPA license.  I had no idea when I joined Kearney that I would be working on DoD audits and in particular, on the Marine Corps audit.

How has being a Veteran impacted your career?

My years of experience with the Marine Corps have been very helpful on the Marine Corps audit team since I am familiar with the Marine Corps culture and many of the information systems they use. I also have credibility with the client because I speak their language and understand the challenges they face.

What does it mean to be a Veteran?

Being a veteran is special to me because I feel that I have given something back to the country that has so blessed me and family.  Although I was never involved in actual combat, I was prepared to do so, if needed and I supported those who did fight.
