My Interview with Partner Tim Weber

Summer 2018 Kearney & Company Intern Juan Ojeda Interviews Partner Tim Weber

During my internship at Kearney & Company I was presented with the unique opportunity to interview a partner. Tim Weber, provided me valuable responses to the questions I asked. I am grateful for the time Tim took out of his busy schedule to meet with me, this showed that he is caring and passionate about his work. It also showed me that he is willing to help those further succeed in their careers.

Below are the questions I asked Tim, following his response quoted in italics.

Q: What do you wish you had known before going into your first job?

A: “Nothing, because you learn on the job.”

As you are entering your first job you must enter with an open mind and make sure you give it your all. Be open to new opportunities that are being presented and know that it is ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from those mistakes and adjust your approach going forward.

Q: How would you describe the Kearney culture?

A: There is a reason Kearney is a “Best Place to Work.”

Although we’ve grown to over 800 staff, Kearney has done a great job of maintaining  a culture of taking care of people.  It’s a best place to work because of our family atmosphere and knowing we provide a valuable service to the client.  It always fun when you work with great people who are doing great things for our customers.   When the employees are happy it translates to customer happiness and company success.

Q: For interns pursuing a career in business or IT, what resources and skills do you recommend they utilize?

A: “Focus on certifications and boosting your resume.”

It is important to be able to set yourself apart from others. A great way to do so is by continuing education and/or getting certified in relevant competencies.  It is also important to take advantage of available training and to focus on areas that interest you most. Regardless of the technical competency you pursue, finding ways to continually improve your communication skills is important.

Q: How can interns get to know employees and senior executives better?

A: “Be outgoing and introduce yourself to others.”

Simply get involved, meet as many people as you can, and listen and learn.  Kearney is a great place for interns.  We provide the full range of financial services for the federal government so the opportunity to learn different programs and capabilities is incredible.  Kearney believes in having fun and being involved in the community.  There are many extracurricular activities to get involved in. I recommend interns take full advantage of these opportunities and start building of network of colleagues and friends that will be long lasting.
